Visitation Thursday for Don Reeder
Robert D. “Don” Reeder, 89, of Elgin, died May 28, 2013, at his home following a short illness.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Legion Hall in Elgin.
A private family graveside service will be held later.
Assisting the family with arrangements is Iowa Cremation of Cedar Rapids.
Don was born Aug. 3, 1923, in West Union to Robert and Anna (Sorenson) Reeder.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 75th Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge.
On May 12, 1948, Don married Eva Verna Boyer in Brainard, Ia.
He farmed in the Elgin area all of his adult life and was also the postal custodian in Oelwein for many years.
Don was a member of First Baptist Church in West Union and American Legion Post 352 in Elgin.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and following his children and grandchildren in all of their sports.
Preceding Don in death were his parents; his wife, Eva; a sister, Eleanor; and three brothers, Thomas, Oscar and Roger Reeder.
Survivors include four sons, Richard and Robert, both of Elgin, James of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Donna) of Manchester; a daughter, Rita (Lowell) Lyngaas of Postville; 10 grandchildren, Jay Reeder, Rebecca Peterson, Rachael Koch, Autumn Reeder, Katie Arjes, Andy Reeder, Sarah Dallman, Grant Burke, Anna Burke and Maya Burke; and nine great-grandchildren.
