Marilyn Larson

Marilyn J. Larson, 81, of Sumner died Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus, in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Tracy Hinkel officiating. 

Interment followed at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. 

The family suggests that memorials be made in Marilyn’s name to St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Sumner Women’s Civic Club, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Marilyn Jean, daughter of Leo Kloster and Arlene (Mork) Kloster, was born July 21, 1936, at the hospital in West Union. 

She was baptized July 29, 1936, and confirmed June 4, 1950, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union.

Marilyn graduated from West Union High School in 1954. 

On Feb. 26, 1955, she was united in marriage with Arthur D. Larson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. To this union, two sons were born, Keith and Tom. 

Marilyn worked as a secretary at Harms Insurance in Sumner for many years prior to her retirement. 

She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and the Sumner Women’s Civic Club. 

Marilyn enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, baking, making her homemade bread for her family, crocheting, quilting, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Green Bay Packers, but most especially she cherished the time spent with her sons and their wives, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

  Marilyn is survived by her husband, Arthur, of Sumner; two sons, Keith (Lynnette) Larson and Tom (Layna) Larson, both of Sumner; four grandchildren, Wendy (Shane) Wentzel of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kyle (Rebecca) Larson of Sumner, Kara Larson of Waterloo, and Ashley Larson of Arlington; five great-grandchildren, Chase, Carter, and Zachary Wentzel, and Riley and Dayton Larson; two sisters-in-law, Loree Kloster of Ankeny and Alta Parkin of Eldridge.

In addition to her parents, Leo and Arlene Kloster, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Kloster.
