Robert Gehring

Robert Edward Gehring, 65, of Marengo, Iowa formerly of Elgin, Iowa died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa.

He was born on July 7, 1948 to Lester and Phyllis (Olson) Gehring in Elgin, Iowa. He graduated from Valley High School in Elgin, Iowa in 1966 and he also attended one year of automotive technical school in St. Louis, Missouri.

Robert was united in marriage with Brenda Sue Pratte on October 21, 1967 in Elgin, Iowa. After marrying Brenda, Robert joined the United States Army in 1967, he served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1970. When returning home, he farmed in the Elgin area for a time. He was also an Auctioneer, a Realtor and CNC operator for twenty years. In 1980, he rejoined with the Army Reserves, retiring in 2000. Robert’s interests included the Chicago Bears and Cubs, the Iowa Hawkeyes, NASCAR and facts and memorabilia of WWII.

Robert is survived by his three sons, Robert (Tammy) Gehring Jr. of Marengo, Sean (Mandy) Gehring of Gladbrook and Dustin (Mikaela) Gehring of Marengo and six grandchildren, Tori, Kyla, Austin, Conner, Riley and Pierce.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda in 1985; his daughter Brandi Gehring and his parents.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa with a visitation from 9 am until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Rusty Phillips was the Officiant.

Burial followed at Illyria Cemetery, rural Elgin, Iowa with Military Honors.
