Robert Bass

 

 

Robert P. Bass, 72, of Arlington, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, while under hospice care at his daughter’s home in rural West Union.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette with Rev. Herbert Mueller, III officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Fayette.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27th, at Becker-Milnes Funeral home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.

Robert Paul, son of Farrell S. and Helen Nelson Bass, was born September 12, 1941, in Fayette County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette.

He was in the last class at the Lima School and attended Fayette High School.

On July 3, 1961, he was married to Nancy Marie Voshell at Fayette. The couple later divorced.

Robert was a semi driver for more than forty-five years. He was self-employed for many years as well as working for many years with Carl Recker Farms.

He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette.

He maintained a lifelong love of horses and enjoyed chuck wagon races and stock car races.

Robert is survived by five children, Becky O’Dell and her fiancé, Darryl Woltzen of West Union, Deb (Scott) Schlatter of Lincoln, Nebraska, Douglas (Kristi) Bass of Sumner, Paul Bass of West Union, and Chris (Matt) White of Pella; seven grandchildren, Cory O’Dell, Melissa Bass, Stephanie and Jacob Schlatter, and Logan, Madeline, and Olivia White; two great grandchildren, Rozline and Ronnie O’Dell; and three brothers, Richard (Alda) Bass of Elk Run Heights, Jim (Mary) Bass of West Union, and Gary (Betty) Bass of Oelwein.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean, who died at birth; his parents; one brother, LaVerne; and two sisters, Shirley Appleby and Beverley Cousins.      35u35
