Oliver Westpfahl

 

 

Oliver L. Westpfahl, 97, of Hawkeye, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. David R. Nelson officiating. 

Interment followed at Hawkeye Cemetery.

Friends called from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church multimedia fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye assisted the Westpfahl family.

Oliver Louis, son of Herman and Bertha (Busch) Westpfahl, was born May 21, 1918, in rural Fayette County north of Hawkeye, Iowa.

He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and received his education in the Hawkeye Schools.

He was united in marriage with Mildred Irene Cline on June 15, 1937, at Galena, Illinois.

A lifelong Hawkeye area farmer, Oliver and his wife retired from the farm in 1979, and moved into Hawkeye.

He held leadership positions in the Hawkeye Creamery, Hawkeye Co-op, and Trinity Lutheran Church. He also volunteered his time to many Hawkeye organizations.

Oliver was honored as the 2015 Hawkeye Fun Days Parade grand marshal on June 20, which pleased him very much and he thoroughly enjoyed.

Oliver liked playing cards, fishing, and watching all types of ball games. He was a dedicated Cubs fan, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren-playing ball with them and giving them rides on recreational vehicles.

He is survived by three children, Judy Treloar of Waucoma, Keith (Marilyn) Westpfahl of Hawkeye, and Peggy (Gene) Eickhoff of Sumner; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Westpfahl of Oelwein; eighteen grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren with four more on the way; two sisters-in-law, Betty Bemiss of West Union and Sharon Cline of Las Vegas, Nevada and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Mildred, who died October 13, 2005 and his parents, Oliver was preceded in death by one son, Oliver, Jr.; one son-in-law, Jack Treloar; one granddaughter, Stephanie Seiler; one great-granddaughter, Deidre Westpfahl and four siblings, Erich, Mabel, Lula, Carl.
