Reuben "Lamar" Fox
Reuben "Lamar" Fox was born to Reuben M and Lucy Oberholtzer Fox on Feb. 20, 1995. Lamar passed away in an accident while hiking in the beautiful mountains of Northern India on September 9, 2015.
Lamar was born in Pennsylvania and moved to New Haven in 1997 with his family. He grew up on the farm near Randalia, Iowa. He was the oldest son in our family of seven children: four boys and three girls.
At the age of ten he felt the call of God and came to his parents, telling them he felt lost and unclean. He said, “I know if I die, I won’t be able to enter heaven.” He knelt beside his bed and prayed that God would forgive him and make his heart clean. Then he knew in his heart that Jesus had died for him, received him, and forgiven him. He was baptized on June 25, 2006 into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He enjoyed his Christian life through all the challenges of growing up, going often to his closet of prayer for renewing and strength. The faith was precious to him and while living, he lived it with all his heart. He left us with a clear witness that he died a redeemed soul.
Lamar spent his growing up years helping on our small farm, in the greenhouse, and in the cabinet shop. He enjoyed working with wood and was very talented in that occupation.
He made friends easily wherever he was, being of a caring and helpful nature. He really enjoyed the few summers he worked for Alson Martin on the roofing crew, and the Martin family was a real encouragement to him. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, and talking.
He loved activities with all of his fellow youth friends; kick the can, picnics with ultimate Frisbee after, softball, and times around the fire.
He left a clear testimony and will be remembered singing from the heart with all his dear friends.
Those left behind to cherish precious memories are his loving parents, Reuben and Lucy; three sisters, Lucinda, Katie, and Juanita; and three brothers, Johnathan, Michael, and Keith. Paternal Grandmother, Katie Fox of Stanley, WI. Maternal grandparents, David and Emma Oberholtzer and many dear uncles, aunts, and cousins. Lamar had many friends and neighbors that were special to him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ivan Fox and four young cousins, Jordan Oberholtzer, Kenneth Fox, Timothy Reiff and Nelson Fox.
