
Paul Sawvell
Paul Sawvell, 83, of Fayette, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Paul Raymond, the son of Dorthy Douglass, was born July 20, 1932 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. He was baptized February 27, 1937 at the Methodist Church in McGregor, Iowa and confirmed on April 25, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Paul graduated from Dubuque Senior High School on June 2, 1949.
Paul was united in marriage with Joann McGraw on April 7, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa. Two children were born to this union. Paul served with the U.S. Army in Korea from March 10, 1953 until December 22, 1954. Paul was then united in marriage with L. Gerene Larson on December 3, 1966. Four children were born to this union. Paul worked in the grocery business, agri-business, sold buildings and was a forever salesman. He was and elder in the church and in his spare time he loved woodworking, crossword puzzles and always had his hand in the cookie jar.
Paul is survived by his wife, Gerene, of Fayette, Iowa; his children and their families, Steve (wife, Melody) Sawvell of McCausland, Iowa; Mike (wife, Vicki and children, Justin, Eric, and Andrew) Sawvell of Dubuque, Iowa; Pam (husband, Paul and children, Bethany, Bailey, Brody, and Brogan) Woodson of East Troy, Wisconsin; Paula (husband, Chris and children, Mara and Max) Grau of Oakdale, Minnesota; Geri Sawvell of Fayette; and Patti Sawvell (special friend, Dean and his children, Brittney, Sydnee, and Justin Hayes) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Dorthy Sawvell, stepfather, J.A. Sawvell, and his siblings.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 1-2 pm at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Chapel in Clermont, Iowa. A scripture service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday with Rev. Herbert Mueller as the officiant.
Inurnment will follow at God’s Acres, Clermont, Iowa with Military Rites.
In Lieu of Flowers the family asks that memorials in Paul’s name be made to the Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa.
