
Delbert Hageman
Delbert Hageman, age 84, of Calmar, IA died on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 12) at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. The Rev. Robert Gross will be the celebrant.
Interment will be in the church cemetery. Casket bearers will be sons Loren Hageman, Delbert Lee Hageman, Jeff Hagemann, and Lowell Hageman, and grandsons Zachary Njus, Michael Hageman, Steven Hageman, Devin Ehrie, Matthew Hageman, Derek Reisner, and Trevor Vobr.
Arrangements are being handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, in Calmar.
Delbert Joseph Hageman was born on March 16, 1934, the son of August and Theresa (Schmitt) Hageman, on the family farm near Calmar, IA.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar.
Delbert attended St. Aloysius Catholic School.
He married Shirley Peck and together they had six children: Loren, Delbert, Lona, Jeffrey, Lowell and Cindy. They later divorced.
Delbert farmed all of his life and also worked many years for Ralph Holthaus Construction.
Delbert enjoyed dancing, playing cards, fishing, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and having “a cold one.”
Delbert is survived by his children Loren (Nancy Kovarik) Hageman of Ossian, Delbert Lee Hageman of Decorah, Lona Hageman of LaCrosse, Wis., Jeff (Robin) Hageman of Oelwein, Lowell (Lisa) Hageman of Decorah, and Cindy Hageman Vobr of Lindstrom, Minn.; 11 grandchildren: Zachary (Nikki) Njus, Michael (Coral) Hageman, Steven Hageman, Tarissa Schroeder, Devin Ehrie, Melissa (Dustin) Franzen, Matthew Hageman, Lindsey (Justin) Hoak, Derek Reisner, Trevor Vobr and Kylee Vobr; six great-grandchildren: Shaylynn, Sheridan, Savannah and Jason Hoak; James “JJ” and Harley Franzen; brothers Eugene Hageman and Robert (JoAnn) Hageman, both of Decorah; sister-in-law Joyce Hageman of Ossian; many nieces and nephews.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, August and Theresa (Schmitt) Hageman; brothers Leonard (Francis) Hageman, Francis (Anna) Hageman, Louis (Dolores) Hageman, August Hageman and Cornelius Hageman in infancy; sisters Marie (Clarence) Brincks and Helen (Francis) Dietzenbach. 37u37
