
Loretta Corkery
Loretta Jane (Staack) Corkery, 83, of West Union passed away on August 5, 2016, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics.
Loretta was born January 3, 1933, on a farm half a mile north of Buck Creek, IA, to Leo and Berdina (Weiskirch) Staack.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Sumner, IA.
Loretta spent her early years in Sumner, IA, but later spent winters in St. Petersburg, FL, until her father’s untimely death when she was 14 years old. Her mother later remarried Carl Westendorf of Sumner, IA.
Loretta graduated from Sumner High School in 1950 and attended Gates Business College in Waterloo, IA, for two years.
In 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert John Corkery of rural Sumner, IA, and to that union were blessed with five children: Cheryl Ann Cook of Waterloo, IA, Michael Robert Corkery (died in infancy), James Paul (Dorothy) Corkery of West Union, IA, Janice Kay Sage of Ankeny, IA, and Jean Alane (Lee) Barness of West Union, IA.
Loretta treasured her time with her children and celebrated the lives of her nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her two sisters Ramona McFarland of St. Louis, MO, and Ilene (Robert) Meyer, of Sumner, IA, along with her two step siblings, Eldon (Marilyn) Westendorf of Wavery, IA, and Marlys Kedding of Long Grove, IA.
Loretta spent her years working for Interstate Power Company until she retired.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards and volunteering. Loretta leaves behind a legacy of love and family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Loretta was held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, with burial following at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
A public visitation was held at 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, Iowa and one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Burnham-Wood and S.K. Rogers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 32u32
