
Jeanne Gulick
Jeanne Gulick, 93, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Dave Neas officiating.
Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 21, at the funeral home.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Jeanne was born February 21, 1923, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Grace Coates Kephart.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1940.
On February 18, 1942, Jeanne was united in marriage with Wayne Gulick in Vinton.
The couple farmed together near Mt. Auburn, and Jeanne was known for preparing lunch for their hay baling crew.
Jeanne and Wayne also enjoyed mushroom hunting (Jeanne enjoyed the drives) and hunting seashells while wintering in Florida, which they did for 25 years.
Wayne preceded her in death on July 28, 2002.
Jeanne enjoyed garage saling, reading, flowers and her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. In recent years, in spite of poor eyesight, she still enjoyed her morning newspaper. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Until her stroke/heart attack in January of 2016, she never forgot to send cards for their birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Halloween and other holidays, and they also received a gift from her every Christmas.
Jeanne is survived by two daughters: Kathy (Carlton) Root of Vinton; and Karen (Gary) Halva of West Union; four grandchildren: Jessica Salvo of Scottsdale, AZ; Debbie (Mitch) Madorin of Castle Rock, CO; Brett (Virginia) Root of Vinton; and Jodi (Mike) Geiger of Vinton; and 12 great-grandchildren: Brandan, Mikayla, Cody (Brittany) and Curtis (Jennifer) Geiger, Lindsay and Reed Madorin, Alyssa and Kenidi Root, Danny, Savannah, Tracy and Carrie Halva.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandson, Tracy Wayne Halva; granddaughter, Kerry Jeanne Halva-Cash; sister, Margaret “Peg” Long; and brother, Harold Kephart.
A memorial fund has been established.
